Repeated colds, watering of nose, and sneezing are usually due to allergic i.e casomotor Rhinitis. Prevention of repeated attacks is the main aim of treatment.

Deep Breathing Exercises.

Inhale deeply through one nostril, hold breath for 2 seconds, exhale through the other nostril x 20 times x 2-3 times/day.

Long acting Anti-histaminic

Tab. Avil-Retard 1 OD x 3 (Pheniramine) or

Tab. TREXYL 60mg. 1 OD x 30 (Terfenadine)

Low dose steroid

Tab. Betnelam 0.5mg.bd x 10-15 days.

Inj. Calcium Gluconate with Vit C 1 amp slow I.V x OD x 5 injections.

Inj. Human Immunoglobin 10% x 1 ml IM x every week x 3 or

Inj. Histaglobin x 1 amp x every week x 3.

Autohaemo Injection

With draw 4ml patient’s blood and inject immediately, deep IM, in gluteal region for stimulation of immune system.

Mast cell stabilizer e.g

Fintal Nasal spray x 3 times/ day x 3-6 months (Sodium chromoglycate) or

Tab. KETASMA 1 mg bd x 3-6 months

Rhinocort Nasal spray x in each nostril. (directed to lateral walls protecting the eyes) x 2 times/ day.

Azep Nasal Spray: once in each nostril times/ day with head held upright, directed to lateral walls x for upto 6 months.

Rule our visible causes first. Ask for Hb% WBC absolute eosinophil count and X-ray P.N.S.

Refer to ENT surgeon if:

Tonsils are enlarged and infected.

If nose is defective – Deviated septum or hypertrophied turbinates.

If there is tenderness over the sinuses.

If there is Eosiniphilia,

Tab. Hertrazan 1 tds x 21 days.

Tab. Wysolene 5mg bd x 15 days.
